Holy Crap. I finished my first half ironman distance triathlon yesterday.
Swim: 1.2 miles, Bike: 56 miles, Run: 13.1 miles.
Some thoughts
I finished (all that matters)
I was the oldest person in the race. (That is a first)
I finished 3rd in my age group, so I officially podiumed!! (of course there were only 3 of us in my age group)
Learning new things at my age is hard. Learning to swim is my challenge. I am very bad at it. Seriously, I totally suck like nobody’s business at it. (I can hear my daughter, who just finished a full ironman, telling me to GET A SWIM COACH!!)
It was a challenging day. Big waves in the water, 40 degrees at the start, it rained on me for a bit on the bike, the run had lots of hills to climb.)
Thanks to Holly for supporting me as training for this takes a great deal of time.
I have 2 more items on the calendar before my year is done.
I encourage everyone to always do things that take you out of your comfort zone. Learn, grow, enjoy and do hard things. Even if you are the oldest one doing it!!
